The Three Countries Park is a platform for space, nature and landscape – not to be confused with a nature park or regional park. Therefore, it also has no clearly defined area, but a project area. The landscape of the three-countries corner (B, NL, D) in and around the urban ring made up of the MAHHL-cities (Maastricht, Aachen, Heerlen, Hasselt, Liège) forms the core of our cross-border cooperation. But the project area is fluid. Depending on the issue concerned, we might address river areas in some projects, for example, or include the entire area of the Euregio Meuse-Rhine in other projects.
“The landscape of the Three Countries Park is beautiful. It is not only diverse, but also typical of the border region. When I return to Vaals from a trip to Brussels, for example, I already feel at home once I reach Belgium’s Pays de Herve.”
Reg van Loo, former mayor of Vaals (NL) and former member of the 3LP steering group
